The Alma TED Procedure: A Needle-Free Look at Hair Restoration

Pro athlete or couch potato, it doesn’t matter — hair loss is an equal opportunity vibe killer. Thankfully, we live in a time where noninvasive and highly effective hair restoration treatments like Alma TED offer a second chance at a full head of hair for people experiencing thinning or balding.

At Essence Skin Clinic & Med Spa of Rochester, MN, we will work closely with you to help you get the most out of this innovative hair restoration treatment. Our approach with Alma TED treatment is highly individualized, keeping each patient’s unique circumstances and goals a central priority.

But what exactly is Alma TED, and who is it for? How does it stack up against other hair restoration treatments?

This overview of the game-changing hair restoration procedure will answer all of these questions and more so that you can make a confident, informed decision about your treatment.

What Is Alma TED?

Alma TED is a very gentle, painless hair restoration procedure that uses ultrasonic technology to infuse a powerful, nutrient-dense solution through the scalp far more effectively than standard topical application. TED stands for “trans epidermal delivery,” referring to the ability of this treatment to deliver the medication beyond the superficial skin layers of the scalp.

The solution typically contains peptides, growth factors, and other ingredients that combat the (often multi-faceted) causes of hair growth, including managing inflammation, stimulating hair follicles, and nourishing the scalp.

Thanks to the power and versatility of this solution, Alma TED can address several hair-loss-related issues, including thinning hair and more complete hair loss.

It’s not exactly the same as a therapeutic or prenatal ultrasound, but if you’ve undergone either of these treatments, you already have a general sense of what an Alma TED treatment feels like. This is to say, it’s little more than a rubbing sensation and/or some warmth at the treatment sites. No needles required!

Alma Ted Versus Other Popular Hair Restoration Treatments

Why choose Alma TED when PRP (platelet-rich plasma), hair transplants, minoxidil, and other hair restoration treatments also produce results?

The short answer is because Alma TED often produces the same results or better with far less hassle.

Here’s a quick breakdown of how Alma TED stacks up against other hair restoration treatments along key categories:

  1. Invasiveness: While PRP injections are non-surgical, they are still injections (including the required blood draw). Hair transplants are more invasive, typically involving multiple small incisions.
  2. Downtime: Most providers recommend a downtime period of one to three days for PRP injections, and one to two weeks following a hair transplant. Alma TED requires zero downtime in the majority of cases.
  3. Potential effectiveness: Since no two treatments address the exact same issues, it’s tougher to rank effectiveness. Where they overlap in terms of treated issues, Alma TED is as effective as many more invasive options, and often more effective than topical serums and medications.
  4. Permanence of results: Alma TED treatments typically last for at least three to six months before reapplication is recommended. PRP injections may last as long as a year, and a successful hair transplant may last a lifetime.

How Alma TED Treatment Works

As always, the first step of the process is to consult with our team of highly trained aestheticians at Essence Skin Clinic & Med Spa to determine whether or not you are a candidate for Alma TED treatment. That said, Alma TED is gentle and versatile enough to address a wide range of hair loss cases and patient preferences.

When it’s time for treatment, which takes roughly 45 minutes, you will be asked to lie down comfortably. Then, your provider will apply the serum to areas of thinning (or lost) hair, intermittently using the handpiece (through which the ultrasonic energy is transmitted) to gently drive the serum through the superficial layers of skin covering the scalp.

You may feel a slight buzzing and/or some warmth to the treatment area, but Alma TED is so discrete, you won’t even need local anesthesia. This means zero needles throughout the entire process!

Who Is Eligible for Alma TED?

Whether you’re in the earlier stages of thinning hair, or have already developed larger bald spots, Alma TED promotes thicker, healthier hair for various cases of hair loss.

Alma TED can also supplement other hair restoration procedures to enhance results and target remaining problem areas.

Because Alma TED is so gentle, it is suitable for a wide range of patients. However, like any treatment, there are still some factors that can affect your eligibility, including (but not limited to) the following:

  • History of seizures
  • Ongoing or recent steroid treatments
  • Some scalp conditions (e.g., psoriasis of the scalp, eczema, etc.)
  • Pregnancy or breastfeeding

Every case is unique, so the best way to determine your eligibility is to consult with our friendly and knowledgeable aestheticians at Essence Skin Clinic & Med Spa of Rochester, MN.
